Easter Foolishness

For the message about the cross is nonsense to those who are being destroyed, but it is God's power to us who are being saved. 1  Corinthians 1:18

And so the masses celebrate by filling children's baskets with all sorts of goodies.  They hide pastel colored eggs and anxiously await as the kids run in looking high, low, and around every corner to find them.  Employees are permitted to take an extra day off to celebrate the ham and green bean casserole while family and friends gather around the dining table to exchange stories.  Some of them may even venture to the "Easter Service" on Sunday morning because tradition has taught them this is what they should do. Sadly they walk away with a new check mark on their to-do list.

And while these activities are not inheritantly evil in nature or morally wrong, they fall short on the day when the greatest event in human history should be celebrated. This year, our kids didn't have baskets filled with candy and they didn't dye eggs. Instead, those activities were put off for another day and we sat down and retold the story about God's incredible love for us.
